Program Description

The Registered Nursing program is intended to be completed within six semesters and leads to an Associate of Science (AS) degree. The program includes theory and laboratory instruction, as well as clinical experience that takes place in various healthcare facilities and on campus, using state-of-the-art simulation practices. Upon satisfactory completion of the Registered Nursing program, graduates are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Exam (NCLEX-RN) to become registered nurses. Upon passing this exam, graduates will be licensed to practice nursing in Idaho (or in whichever state the applicant has applied for the testing and license). Please note that graduates are responsible for costs related to the NCLEX-RN and state licensure.

Admission into the Registered Nursing program requires a separate application process and is competitive. Students are admitted to the Registered Nursing program twice a year, with cohorts starting in the fall and spring semesters. All students accepted into the Registered Nursing program are required to have a criminal background check and pass a drug screening, both at their own expense, after admission into the program. Please see the program web page to obtain more information about the program and the admission process.

The Registered Nursing program at the College of Western Idaho maintains full approval from the Idaho State Board of Nursing.
