EDUC 120 Foundations of Education

This course introduces social, philosophical, and historical perspectives in education. Students will examine the teaching field, current trends, and teaching as a profession. Provides a conceptual and ethical framework from which students will learn to reflect upon and question American public education. This class will produce a portfolio entry for Ethical Reasoning and the Teacher Education Capstone course. (This CWI course meets Idaho State Board of Education GEM competency requirements for GEM 6 - Social and Behavioral Ways of Knowing.). (3 lecture hours, 0 lab hours, 3 credits)

EDUC 150 Educational Technology I
(3 Credits, Fall/Spring/Summer)

Based on the National Education Technology Standards, this course addresses the technology-related components of the Idaho Core Teacher Standards. Students will learn the most recent developments in education technology. (This course emphasizes the International Society for Technology in Education Standards 2 and 3 and Idaho Core Teacher Standards 1, 4, 6, 9, and 10.) (3 lecture hours, 0 lab hours, 3 credits)

EDUC 199 Education Special Topics
(1-5 Credits, Varies)

This course is designed to permit the offering of special topics appropriate to a student's program. Regular or frequently recurring topics are not offered under this title. The course may be repeated as new topics are presented. (1 lecture hours, 0 lab hours, 1 credits)

EDUC 200 Education Around the World
(3 Credits, Fall/Spring)

This course investigates models of education around the world and considers the impact of education on financial, political, and social planes around the globe. Students will examine their own expectations of a global society through the lens of the educational experience afforded the members of various societies. (This CWI course meets the institutional competency requirements in Global Perspectives.). (3 lecture hours, 0 lab hours, 3 credits)

EDUC 220 Diversity in the Schools
(3 Credits, Fall/Spring)

This course examines the interactions of schools, families, communities, and diverse cultures as a basis for reflecting on the social context of learning. Nonparticipant K-12 classroom observations are included. Students are required to complete and pass a background check. (This class addresses Idaho Core Teacher Standards 3, 6, and 9.) EDUC 230 Introduction to Special Education
(3 Credits, Fall/Spring)

This course examines the areas of exceptionality as identified in the laws and policies related to individualized education and considered as a basis for reflecting on human development or individual differences in the schools. Fieldwork required. This course requires students to complete and pass a background check. (This class addresses Idaho Core Standards 2, 6, and 9.) PREREQ: ENGL 101. EDUC 250 Education Technology II
(3 Credits, Spring)

Based on the National Education Technology Standards, this course addresses the technology-related components of the Idaho Core Teacher Standards. Students will learn current and emerging technological developments in education, apply technology to teaching situations, and identify which technologies work best with various instructional methods. (3 lecture hours, 0 lab hours, 3 credits)

EDUC 255 Educational and Assistive Technology
(3 Credits, Varies)

This course teaches the essential skills needed for using technology in education. This will include using the Internet as a research, instructional, and learning tool; databases; spreadsheets; presentation software; and word processing. Students will learn to manage and work in technology-rich classrooms in the K-12 setting with an emphasis on available technology used to address the needs of students with disabilities. EDUC 260 Special Education Policies and Procedures
(3 Credits, Varies)

The purpose of this course is to expand students' knowledge of a wide range of legal issues concerning the provision of special education services to students with disabilities. Examination of special education legislative history, including relevant case law, will provide the framework for understanding current special education policies and procedures according to the Idaho State Department of Education. Upon completion of this course, students will have an increased knowledge of the laws affecting special education in the U.S. and of how to develop legally correct and educationally useful Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities. EDUC 280 Integrated Teaching and Field Experience
(2 Credits, Fall/Spring)

This course provides students with practical, hands-on experience in K-12 classrooms for the purpose of exploring teaching as a career. Under the supervision of a cooperating teacher, students observe and aid in various classroom settings with the duties respective to the student's field of study. Field experience placement is based upon availability and need in a school district. In addition to the field-experience component, students participate in class forums where teacher education topics are discussed. Students are required to complete and pass a background check. (This course addresses Idaho Core Teacher Standards 2, 6, and 9.) PRE/COREQ: EDUC 120. (2 lecture hours, 0 lab hours, 2 credits)

EDUC 290 Education Capstone
(1 Credit, Fall/Spring)

This course is the capstone for all Education majors. Students will compile evidence of their learning and package it in a professional portfolio through the Danielson Framework for Teaching. Attention will be given to pairing evidence with the Idaho Core Teaching Standards. Students will complete their portfolio with materials that prepare them for transfer and later employment including Praxis scores, as applicable. (This course addresses National Education Technology Standards 1-5 and Idaho Core Teacher Standards 2, 3, 6, 8, and 9.) PREREQ: PERM/INST. (1 lecture hours, 0 lab hours, 1 credits)

EDUC 296 Education Independent Study
(1-10 Credits, Varies)

This is a term long project. Each credit hour is equivalent to 45 hours of work on a project. Students should make arrangements with the instructor in their field of interest. Before enrolling for independent study, a student must obtain approval of the department chair and dean, acting on the recommendation of the instructor who will be supervising the independent study. An Independent Study Registration Form must be completed and turned into a One Stop Student Services location before a student may register for this course. PREREQ: PERM/INST and submission of a completed Independent Study Registration Form. (0 lecture hours, 0 lab hours, 1 credits)
