CWI provides educational services for Veterans needing assistance with the use of their educational benefits and educational planning. Veterans should visit the Veterans Services webpage for instructions on initiating Veteran Services. Veterans eligible to receive Veteran Affairs (VA) educational benefits need to submit all paperwork that is required to process VA entitlements. Veterans receiving education benefits may also be eligible for other financial aid program opportunities through the CWI Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
Each semester, Veterans receiving educational benefits must contact the School Certifying Official following initial certification for educational benefits. Additionally, a request for certification form is required for every semester that the Veteran wishes to use VA education benefits. Veterans must report any change in their course schedule, phone number, or mailing address to the School Certifying Official. This is to ensure that correct VA monthly educational benefits are granted in accordance with declared major requirements.
Veterans using VA education benefits at CWI may also be eligible to participate in the VA work-study program.

Military Prior Credit
The College of Western Idaho accepts transfer credits from military transcripts of education and training courses students have taken while in the military. CWI follows the credit recommendations of ACE; these recommendations can be found in the Guide to Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services. Credit for these courses will be applied to the student’s account 5-10 business days after receiving the official military transcript. Most courses will be used to fulfill general elective requirements; those that are more specific to a degree requirement will need approval from the appropriate dean.
